The long-awaited lab computers have finally been delivered and installed throughout the district last week. Three of the Computer Teaching Labs at ACHS now have Macintosh G3s (128mg Ram/12 gig harddrives/built in Zip drives) -WOW - Various software packages are also being installed to suit the teaching requirements of each lab.

G3 Powerbooks (64mg Ram/56K modems/built in Ethernet/CD and Floppy drives) are due to be delivered to the High School next week. They have been on back order from Apple. Each teacher and administrator at the High School will be issued one - up to 150 - and will be able to access the District Internet through our network and their own dial-up service elsewhere. Once again teachers will be able to enter their own attendance and grading (Micrograde upgrade - Y2K compliant - delivered last week).

Office staff will be issued iMacs in the near future to speed up their Star_base and clerical functions. The Media center computers are also scheduled for upgrading shortly.

Our new Lucent phone system is up and running - with a few problems still to be worked out. Training on the phone system and the new Powerbooks will be given to all teachers upon receipt of their Powerbooks.

The Lucent phone system includes features such as: voice mail for all teachers/staff, Homework hotline, Password protected private messaging for parent to teacher/ teacher to parent communication. Substitute finder , auto-dial attendance to each home of absent students, bulletin board message poster for each school, and a classroom phone for each teacher allowing dial out access for local calls.

Isn't it nice to hear some good news once in a while???
